  SACRED HEART CHURCH
HUDSON, MICHIGAN

THIRTEENTH  SUNDAY OF ORDINARY TIME

JUNE 29, 2008

Both the first reading and the Gospel today speak of hospitality and welcome.  Our ministers of hospitality are a most visible example of using one’s time and talents to welcome the people of God.  But the Gospel assures us that all who give even just “a cup of cold water” to one of His lowliest ones will be rewarded.

FROM THE PASTOR’S DESK:

We welcome Fr. Bill Auth, OSFS who is speaking on behalf of the missions at all Masses next weekend. I’m sure you will extend him a great welcome.

Happy Independence Day.  We celebrate our freedom this week as we celebrate the Fourth of July.  May God continue to bless our nation and all the best that we stand for!

Check out our parish web page.  Thanks to Dave LaForest we have a great presence on the Internet.  One of the Oblates from California saw our web page, complimented the parish, and promised to “borrow” some of the bulletin items. http://www.laforestnet.com/church

Start thinking about RCIA – the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults.

We plan to begin this year’s sessions in early September.Contact me or Linda Higgins (286-6426) for further information.

·  Are you interested in learning more about the  Catholic Church?

·  Are you unbaptized but recognize a need for spirituality in your life?

·  Are you a baptized Catholic or baptized in another Christian denomination but never received any formal religious education?

·  Are you married to a Catholic and attend Mass but just don’t know what the next step is to become one of the Catholic faithful?

·  Are you yearning for something more in your life?

How do we prepare to celebrate Liturgy?

Not only the musicians, lectors, and presiders prepare for the celebration.  We all do.  We prepare as we select our clothes, get our children ready, and begin to move toward the church building.  Perhaps you have a routine you follow each Sunday.  This is part of what prepares you to join in the celebration.  Many people read the Scripture readings for the Sunday so they have had time to think about them in advance.  This might be a good idea of something to do as a family, taking time to discuss them.  Then you can compare your thoughts with the homily on Sunday.

How does prayer at liturgy differ from other forms of prayer?

Liturgy is defined as the “work of the Church.” It is what the Church does that makes it uniquely itself.  The Church is the assembly of believers, gathered by God to do worship in the name of Jesus Christ. Therefore the prayer of the Church is communal prayer, not individual prayer. It comes from our individual prayer, arises from our habit of prayer as individuals and as groups outside of liturgy. The prayer we do during liturgy is the prayer of the assembled Body of Christ. It is a collective prayer, which we offer to God by the right (and the duty) which comes from our baptism. When we gather to pray at liturgy, we come not as a group of individuals, but as the Church itself. April 9, 2001

Hey, did you know there is a tuition reduction program right here at Sacred Heart School to offset the cost of your tuition? It is called SHIP (Sacred Heart Incentive Program).

How it works is you buy gift certificates to the stores that you already shop at. These stores sell them to us at a discount, and the discount goes right towards your child's tuition. It's that easy! We do all the bookwork and pay your money accumulated right towards your tuition annually. All's you have to do is shop!

If you have just enrolled your child to begin next year, you have to get started now. Because the money you save this year goes towards next years tuition. If you hurry, you can still reduce your tuition by a good margin for the upcoming year.

To give you a head start, and to let you see how easy the program really is, we are going to give you an extra 1% on all of your orders placed for the rest of April. That's three weeks worth of bonus! don't worry all of you regular customers. You'll get the extra 1% too. Spread the word on how easy this program really is, and how much it's benefited you.

If you have any questions, or want to know more about SHIP, please call the school office during school hours at 448-6405, or call the rectory during office hours at 448-3811.

P.S. Grandmas and Grandpas can also buy certificates and the savings will be credited towards your grandchildren. Don't have a child attending Sacred Heart School? Well, we've got you covered too. There is a general church fund, a general school fund, and a general scholarship fund that you can credit your savings to.

Dear Parents:

As a non profit Sacred Heart School we are always looking for ways to help fund our operations without putting a large burden on the people we serve and without increasing our administrative costs. Recently, we took advantage of an opportunity to participate in a new program offered by Meijer. We are now enrolled in Meijer Community Rewards.

Meijer Community Rewards allows us to raise funds to meet our organization's goals very quickly and easily. Here's how you can participate. We need you, our supporter, to join Meijer Community Rewards. It's free and can be done on-line at www.meijer.com/rewards  If you already have a Meijer Credit Card just call 1-800-962-7011 to join. Then simply swipe your card at the register whenever you shop at Meijer. Use it for food, clothing, toys, house wares, jewelry, hardware, garden and more! We will automatically receive a percentage of your purchase totals. SACRED HEART SCHOOL'S CODE # IS 302184.

This program can make a wonderful difference for Sacred Heart School. We will be using these funds for the school's expenses. Meijer Community Rewards has some of the highest reward percentages on over 150,000 items, as well as frequent payments. Best of all, the program automatically earns money whenever you shop, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
