HUDSON AMERICAN LEGION
Our Post is concluding another year of service to local veterans, organizations and community. We can be proud of our accomplishments and our Post! We hosted over 30 dinners, benefits and special events since our August newsletter. Special event dinner and event coordinators, Mike and Jan Shorthouse, are truly exceptional planners and leaders and along with their equally extraordinary committee members deserve our most sincere gratitude. CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR HUDSON TIGER FOOTBALL TEAM FOR ANOTHER SEASON OF GREAT SUCCESS AND ENJOYMENT. The fall fish fries and Auxiliary steak and potato dinners were excellent. The 116 the consecutive semi-annual 100 Club enjoyed a great T-Bone steak dinner October 25th with 23 different drawing winners! The "100 CLUB", formed in 1953 by Legionaires Curly Meredith, Jim Dunne, Royce Abbott, Dick Goodrich, Dorr Lillywhite, Fred Culver and others for the purpose of Club capital improvement and debt retirement has, thru the years, provided thousands of dollars to Post 180. May 8, 2012 is our 117 th scheduled dinner/drawing with several openings available. INTERESTED? Give the Post a call at 448-8111 to join!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Speaking of History: Post Gazette Aug 7, 1947 The American Legion Memorial Home Fund Field Day on Thursday, Aug. 14, 1947, all day and evening. A plan worked out by Legion Members whereby they will raise monies which to build themselves a fine new home one mile east of Maple Grove Cemetery on ground that has already been leveled off prepatory to getting construction started. Said land being a gift from Butch LaForest. Post Gazette Oct. 7, 1948 It was announced today by Leo (Curly) Meredith, Commander, that Hannan-Colvin Post 180 of Hudson will be host at the second district meeting of the State American Legion this coming Sunday. The event, which will be attended by several hundred Legion members will also be the official dedication of the new Post 180 home located just North of the City. From Mike Brennan, Post History Officer The Post home bar/fellowship room refurbishment project was completed in late October and features new ceilings, lighting, flooring, painting and a 70 INCH FLAT SCREEN TV!! Thanks to our Home Foundation Plunder Platoon Unit for part of the funding and to our 60+ year Member Extraordinaire Don Murdock for his very generous gift to complete the project. CHAPLAIN REPORT Well, it's that time of year. Winter is on its way, cold, snow, shoveling. But winter also brings one of my favorite times of the year - CHRISTMAS - and all of the joys that go with it. For some families, without our help, there will be no joy. There are a lot of organizations out there that can be contacted to help the less fortunate and hurting people. Lets all call or stop into one of these and see what or how we can help so that more can have a blessed Christmas. Keep these people in your prayers, Oh, by the way, it is OKAY to say MERRY CHRISTMAS. Lets keep Christ in Christmass. Ps 133:1 Thanks, Dave Warren

FIRING SQUAD - CEREMONIAL - HONOR GUARD As we near the end of 2011 it seems like a good time to recap Squad events for the year. Our primary role is providing a Final Salute at the funeral of any veteran when so requested. This was done with a very professional manner at 20 such events. One of the more public events is the honor of leading our local parades. We organized the Memorial Day parade and service and led the parades for the School Homecoming, Bean Creek Festival and the recent Christmas Parade. We have continued the long held tradition of raising the Stars and Stripes at home football games. We participated at the Gleaner's Flag Day event in Adrian, retired several hundred unserviceable American flags, attended the American Legion baseball tournament Veteran's night, helped host the Legion State baseball tournament in Adrian and were honored at a Toledo Mud Hen baseball game for community service. It should be noted that our Post sponsored Boy Scout Troop has participated with us in many of the public events. We will be participating in the local segment of the National "Wreaths Across America" program. TAPS - HONORING TI-IE PASSING OF OUR FALLEN COMRADES July 6 - Leon Schulte ** July 6 - Robert Whittaker Sept 1 - Clarence Choate * Sept 1 - John Warren * Sept 30 - Doyce Merillat Dec 8 - Noarris Wiulliams ** Member and past Post Historian * Member Bob Kramer, Ceremonial Chairman Thanks to all of you for your dedication and service to Post 180!! |
