Post News

MARCH 2008

It is that time of year when we are getting our Post #180 baseball team roster and schedule together. This is our second year and we will field two teams this year. The team operates just on sponsors, donations, and fund raisers. We will be having a fish fry fund raiser on Friday 21 March (Good Friday). We would like to have a good turnout of Legion Members. Come on out and meet some of the team and coaches and help support the teams. Jeramy Beal is again leading the Team. Jeramy took them to a 2nd place finish at the 2nd District Tournament last year. The team received two trophies last year. They are on display at the Post. The first game will be the first part of June. We hope to have the schedule out shortly, and we would like to have a good turnout of Legion Members, at least for our home games.

Fish Frys are every other Friday and still going good. We could use more volunteers to take charge of a fish fry. It would only be once or twice a year. We still have pie sales on the last fish fry of the month.

Please take note on the flyer for the Fishing Trip. Tickets are only $10.00 and this project will go a long way in reducing our mortgage. Don't forget that the drawing will be at our regular meeting the 17th of March. Lets have a good turnout for the drawing.

Last Veterans Day was a great success, with the great chicken bar-b-q, Flag retirement and Jim Topps here for Veterans seminar. Jim had a good turnout and he helped a lot a Veterans. Jim is a State Veterans Affairs Rep., and if you need help let us know and we will get you in touch with him.

Pull tabs and keno are doing well. These are just two of the projects that help keep our Post open, and our prices down.

Don't forget Tabs for Tots. This is a wonderful project, put on by the Department for the little ones in the hospital. We have a few pounds right now that will turn in in the Spring.

We still have a good turnout for our Money Raffles. We had a nice group this year and it is one way that we pay our bills in the winter. With the expense of heat, taxes and other extra winter expenses, this always seems to pull us thru the winter.

Had a meeting at the Winter Conference in Lansing Feb 15th, although Joe and Roger were the only two who could attend this year. There will be a District Meeting coming up Sunday 9th March in Jackson, and State Conference 18th June in Grand Rapids. Anyone who wants to go, check with the Post.

The Boy Scouts have signed up for some fund raisers at the Post on Sunday and Thursday. The first one is a Swiss Steak Dinner Sunday 9th March 12:00-3:00pm. They could use all of our support.

We still have Euchre every Wednesday night 7:00-9:00. Cost is only $3.00 per night plus .25 Euchre. Money from Euchres pays for our snacks. For the most part we have 6-8 tables a night. All the cost ($3.00) is paid back to the top 3 or 4 players.

Meeting nights are the first and third Mondays of every Month. We are up to 15-16 Members attending meetings, but we could use some more support. Remember that the Post Business is run at these meetings. Keep in mind that the Election of Officers will be up for Vote: Commander, 1st Vice, 2nd Vice and Ex Committee. We may also be Voting on some revisions to the By-Laws in order to bring them up to date.

Don't forget that we have many Hospital items to let out, at cost of "0".

Volunteers are still needed to drive the shuttle van for patients to and from the Ann Arbor V.A. Hospital. If interested call the Adrian V.A. Office at 264-5335.

It is time to start planning for Memorial Day. As always Van will take care of all the details. As of now it looks as if we will again have a Chicken Dinner. This year we will also have Jim Topps here for a Veterans and spouses Seminar. Jim is the State Veterans Affairs Rep.. If you know of any Veterans or spouses that needs help, in any way, have them come on Memorial Day and see Jim. For more information call the Post at 448-8111.

Commander

Fellow Legionnaires,

Our annual Money Auction was a great success and everyone enjoyed themselves. Congratulation to all the winners and Thank You for your support.

The Legion has, resurrected the Executive Committee. Per the By-Laws the purpose of the Executive Committee is to over see the government and management of the Legion. The Committee is made up of five elected members from the membership at large, the Commander, Past Commander, 1st & 2nd Vice and representatives from the SAL and Auxiliary. At this time we do not have enough members at large on the committee to make a full committee. With the elections fast approaching we will be looking to elect individuals to fill the at, large members of the committee. If you would be interested in becoming a member of the executive committee and willing to make the commitment, please let one of your officers know. There are one year, two year and tree year seats available. The Executive Committee meets on the third Monday of the month prior to the scheduled Legion Meeting.

Thank You for your continued support and see you at the Legion
